Where to Watch the 2014 London Marathon

The London Marathon is fast approaching on Sunday, April 13th. If you are interested in taking in some of the action when some of the best runners compete in one of the world's most prestigious races, you will need to know the best places to watch the race. The following list will provide you with locations that will give you an excellent vantage point:

Bermondsey (Mile 11)
Closest Tube Station: Bermondsey

Most of the runners in the race should be able to reach this point by the late morning. After you have watched them go by, you can get yourself an early lunch. You can grab a bite at Magdalen. It is located a short walk from the marathon route. They sell outstanding French food that is bistro-style at affordable prices.

Tower Bridge (Mile 12-14)
Closest Tube Station: London Bridge

At this point the runners will be reaching Bermondsey and making their way across Tower Bridge and headed east towards Limehouse. One of the most ideal places to watch the runners go by is Butler's Wharf. You can then head over to the Blueprint Café to enjoy their amazing views of the Tower Bridge. You can also get some good looks from close by establishments Teapod and Le Pont de la Tour.

If you are in the mood to grab a bite to eat and watch the race while you are enjoying your food, you might consider Gordon Ramsay's The Narrow. It is located right on the route of the London Marathon, so sit down and enjoy the race. In the Narrow's pub garden, they will be having a breakfast barbecue that starts at 8am.

Canary Wharf (Mile 15-20)
Closest Tube Station: Canary Wharf

The halfway point in the race will happen as the runners zigzag through the streets of Canary Wharf. There are several places in the area that boast superb views of the race route. A good vantage point can be found at Wahaca's terrace bar for miles 18 and 19. If you go to the heart of the Canary Wharf estate, the bar called Plateau with its glass roof is also a great place to take in all of the action.

St. James' Park and Embankment (Mile 25-26)
Closest Tube Station: Various

If you want to travel the distance along with the runners, the final stretch of the London Marathon will occur in Embankment. One Twenty One Two located at the Royal Horseguards is a plush hotel restaurant that contains a terrace with fabulous views of Embankment. If you are looking for a place to toast the runners as they pass by and enter the final stretch, this is the place to do it. A restaurant called Inn the Park is also nice and it is even closer to the finish line.
